Walpole
Walpole was
established as a town in 1930
through the Nornalup Land Settlement
Scheme that was designed for city
families hit by the Great
Depression.
Each family was allocated 100
acres of old growth forest to clear for
farmland. Conditions at the time were very
difficult, and many of the families
abandoned their makeshift homes.
Today, the area is home to
many dairy and beef farmers, as well as
vineyards, olive groves, and other
horticultural and tourism enterprises.
